PetSmart Toys R Us Pets Collection

So I was contacted by Allison Macalik and asked if I would be willing to review some of the new dog toys being introduced by PetSmart. And I said sure!

I was sent a selection of toys from their new Toys R Us Pets Collection.

The toys I was sent were cute, but not the kind of toys Jen would typically choose for me.

I destroyed the Vinyl Tire and Rope Animal right away.  SCORE! The Pets Patterned Body Canvas Caterpillar was not far behind.

Gone in 30 minutes!

When I posted the news on Twitter, I was sent a different toy- the Double Loop Tennis Ball/ Tug Rope Toy.

replacement toy

So, did I like the toys?  Well, to be honest, yes.

The Pets Dumbell Treat was a favorite, especially when Jen put kibble inside.

But the cloth squeaky toys? I loved them, but Jen would never buy those for me. In addition to being impractical (as in quickly destroyed), they are unsafe. I almost ate one of the squeakers.  If you DO let your dogs play with toys like these, they should always be supervised.

Surprisingly, this was my favorite.

This is the Wacky Water Bottle Cruncher. And this pic was taken last night, two weeks after I got the toy. Notice that I haven’t torn the ears off or the eyeballs.  Here’s a video of me playing with the bottle cover toy.

The plastic bottle inside can be replaced (I’ve already replaced once), and the cover can be washed. As you can see, this toy is ready for that.

The ball/rope toy is durable, and I enjoy playing catch with it. Jen tried to video me, but that didn’t work too good. Kinda hard for humans to video and play at the same time.

So the toys are going to be in PetSmart soon. Check them out!

About Jen and the Furries

Hello and welcome. I’m a 50 something woman who’s probably awake when she should be sleeping. Oh, and there are animals, because who doesn’t have pets?

That bottle cover looks great, I’ve never seen anything like that before…. I love the sound of plastic bottles…. 🙂

  4. Rumpy, we are amazed at how incredibly polite DeDe is…she never tried to steal anything away from you! We’re glad you got to test out the toys. It’s important to know what’s safe and what is not! xo Berner Girls

  5. The Wacky Water Bottle Cruncher seems great! I’m gonna get one for my puppy (actually…my sister’s puppy that I’m contemplating stealing! lol)

  6. Well you were certainly enjoying playing with the Water Bottle Cruncher, but I don’t think DeDe liked the noise of it!

  7. I love toys and would love a job as a toy tester, my mum says I am still a puppy at heart – that bottle cover thing looks good.

  8. The wacky water ball cruncher sounds promising. I think Peanuts would love something as noisy as that, especially since bottles drive her crazy.

We have dumbbell toys here too. But they have jingly bells inside, rather than treats.

    Huggies and Cheese,

  9. I have two Boxers who are pretty good at destroying pet toys, even those marked as indestructible! Their favourites however, are used margarine tubs and yogurt pots, and I don’t mind if they destroy those x.

Thanks for your comment, too, and for reading the guest post at Christmas Pie Crafts 🙂

  10. Woo!!! All of those toys look very interesting!!! I’m sure that my favorite would be “the Double Loop Tennis Ball/ Tug Rope Toy” as I love playing tennis balls!!!
Which one is Dear DeDe’s favorite? Woof? 🙂

  12. Great review! Have a feeling the cloth toys would be demolished here, too. However, both Jeffie and Rudy love the bottle cover toys, so I’ll have to check them out. Thanks!

  13. Hey Rumpy I bet that water bottle toy thingie makes a nice SCRUNCH sound when you bite into it huh???? Toys need to be tough for doggies I would think……ruff and tuff is the name of the game. Good review though for doggie toy buyers!

  14. I almost bought the Double Loop Tennis Ball/ Tug Rope Toy last week at Petsmart, but I decided not to because I was worried Zoe could eat through the plastic ball. The water bottle cruncher looks really cool though!

  15. Hey Rumpy! Your new toys look awesome. I can see why the crunchy bottle one is you favorite! You and Fred should have a contest to see who can tear apart a stuffed the fastest. LOL! Great review!

  16. The only plush toys my dogs get are the Tuffy’s. It takes them a lot longer to destroy (months) not only because they are strong, but because they only get to play with them supervised.

My dogs love the bottle toys. It did take a while (weeks) to destroy this toy. Somehow Pierson got the bottle out and tore up the cloth cover. It was a Kyjen brand not a Toys R Us brand. How is the bottle in the brand Rumpy has enclosed? The Kyjen used velcro.

  17. Lola thinks all plush toys must be chewed to bits, so I don’t get them for her very often. She does love the water bottles, but she doesn’t seem to need a cover for them. She just sits by me while I drink and waits for me to finish so she can have a new toy.

  18. Hi Rumpy,,,, Thanks for stopping by and also for sharing your playtime with us.
The Joke Puppy is funny about toys,,,,really doesn’t “play” with any of hers,,,,but can’t wait to run and get them when Joke Daddy returns home from being out , as if to say “look what I have” . Any way,,,,Joke Daddy is her favorite “toy”.

  19. The Water Bottle toy is my favourite too Rumpy!! Although, mom could save the money and just give me the water bottle and I’ll be just as happy!

  20. Pawsome looking toys Rumpy!! You would probably destroy my entire collection in one day! I still have the purple teddy bear I brought with me from my puppy home! I don’t destroy my stuffies, sometimes I make a tiny hole that mom sews shut. BOL!!!

  24. Nice review. Different dogs all seem to have different taste in toys. Tubby, Ping, and now Weasley (all pugs) seem to like cloth toys with squeakers and noisy toys. We are careful to monitor and they can actually have some of these toys for years. Norbert likes squeaker toys and balls. Bob likes tugs and squeakers and balls. None of our dogs are much for puzzle toys they just done seem motivated to get the treat. I was hopefully Weasley would like kings but so far not at all, even with cheese filling! He licked it once nad then went to sleep

By the way puppy preschool is what our trainer calls puppy k. She focuses on socialization and playing more then commands. You pay for puppy k and get basic included. Bassic starts at 5 months and puppys and adults are not sepearted

  27. Awww, sweet Rumpy that last video of you with the bottle toy is so cute. DeDe didn’t seem very interested in them. Chancy would love the soft fuzzy ones. This was a great review. Hugs and nose kisses

  32. Well, I’m glad you had fun, but I think it is just WRONG to make kittehs and doggehs (especially kittehs) WORK to get their treats. I mean, what’s that about? Just give them to us, dammit!!! Plus, it didn’t look like you ever got ANYTHING out of that green torture device except a whiff of some treats! I wonder how the Humans would like it if they had to work for their food??!! Wait–what? Oh. Never mind.

  33. Do they do any guinea pig toys or are these safe for small furries? Not many places do piggy toys and our Mummy loves buying us things!

Oh, some of those toys look like lots of fun!

How y’all doin’? Just stoppin’ by to wish y’all a wonderful Memorial Day holiday weekend.

  36. Mom saw the Toys R Us items at Petsmart yesterday and thought they were pretty poor in quality. She bought two new “tough” toys, one made out of fire hose material. Within less than an hour, Ciara and Lightning had pretty much destroyed both of them. No more new toys here for a while, we guess:(

Thanks for the review. Maybe we can talk Mom into that water bottle one.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

  38. Great input. It will save me a lot of money. BJ is a terrier mix and toys don’t last long. Now I know which ones not to buy.

  39. Rumpy,
Looks like you had a blast testing all those toys! They would also not last long at the SWD house. 🙂

  40. Hey Rumpy, Jet here.

JJ, Little Miss Chewminator, would destroy those in no time! BTW, were the toys bpa free???

  41. Hi Rumpy. The Bottle covered toy looks like a real possibility for the German – although after the bunny incident, I’ll have to check the ears. She’d love the crunchy sound.
One of our Bouvier friends, Faye, used to toss empty milk cartons in the yard to keep her always-lookin-for-trouble Bouviers entertained. They loved to toss them and carry them around…but the German tends to search and proceed to destroy all in one sitting…I worried about the sharp plastic.
    Thanks for the review!

    Posted by philosophermouseofthehedge | May 28, 2012, 10:58 AM
    • it’s always a concern with me too, and that’s why Jen says supervision is important, but you know all too well that even the closest supervision can’t prevent problems. The tug toy is sturdy though and the German might enjoy that one.

  44. The ball/rope toys have always been the only survivors amongst our canine crew, Rumpy! And you are so right to warn about those cloth stuffed toys with squeakers inside! Thanks for the helpfully illustrated review.
