Happy Gotcha! Day to Me!

WHAT? A party? For me? I don’t believe it!

Thanks so much for coming to my party!

You are all the bestest friends ever!

Little did I know when Jen stopped to keep me from darting into a busy street six years ago, what adventures we had in store for us. Has it been a bed of roses? Not at all. But we agreed to stick together and work things out. That’s what makes me a lucky dog.

There are many dogs that don’t have it so good.  Millions die each year for no reason other than they have no home.  Still many more are alive, but they’re not living. They are in crates or cages or runs, hoping someone will come along and love them.  Or they simply give up.

That’s what could have happened to me, but it didn’t.

You mean I couldda ended up in a shelter?

And it’s from that sense of gratitude that I talk about being a responsible pet owner.  I think every dog should have it so good.

The only way that’s going to happen is when we curtail reproduction.  And one way we do that by de-sexing animals (Aussie term for spay/neuter).

So…. I believe it’s at this point that you are going to tell me about what YOU are going to do to promote spay/neuter where you live? I can’t WAIT to hear what you have planned!

I’m ready to hear your ideas!

PS: What’s a party without favors? I got ’em too- ten Frosty Paws prize packs! Leave a comment below to be entered in the drawing. For contest rules, read yesterday’s post.

And thanks for coming to my party!

  1. Hi Rumpy. Sorry I tricked you the other day. I didn’t want to spoil the surprise. Your Gotcha Day is awesome 🙂 I know Gotcha Days and birthdays are special but they only come around once a year. We support our local CPS and Doggie Rescue every day, and that’s what I would urge everyone to do if they can because they are the ones who can direct the resources into spay/neuter programs best. Happy Gotcha Day 🙂

  2. Happy Gotcha Day Rumpy! So very glad you found Jen 🙂

I support the National De-sexing Network, which promotes subsidised desexing and provides information on how to access discount desexing. I also am known to ‘preach’ to pet owners on how they should get their dogs and cats desexed.

  3. Oh Rumpkin! What a special day for you and your whole family. We’re so glad Jen saw you and stopped! Have the years just flown by? You’ve had a lot of fun adventures, with more to come. OurPeople are getting ready to do some more TNR for their feral cat colony #2 before the weather starts getting cool & rainy. It’s a very important thing for keeping everyone healthy and happy…and kitten-less. We hope you have many more healthy & happy years, too! Love and loud purring from RainbowCatsx8

  4. SURPRISE!!!!! Happy Gotcha Day Rumpy!!! I wish you a wonderful day on your Gotcha Day!

We’re planning to write a letter to our local city council, if they can make a little budget for spay/ neuter of dogs and cats for free or at least with reduction explaining how it’s so important.

There is some subsidy for pet animals but not for feral…weird, isn’t it? It’s very unfair!

I hope that this spay/neuter way for animals will be much more common in all over the world! and for that, we need to start at least small things that we can do little by little!

and thanks very much for educating us with your blog post, Rumpy!

Again have a lovely Gotcha Day with Jen, DeDe, June Buggie, Malachi, Hissy Fit Jones, Bubba, Graybie Baby and Little Girl!

  5. Happy Gotcha! Day Rumpy. We’re so lucky that we all have Gotcha! Days and didn’t end up being sad puppies. We’re going to do our interview with you just as soon as mumma finishes the thing she’s been doing (other than her job away from us and looking after us) that’s been keeping her extra busy. In that interview we’ll tell you why Beary had the desexing operation on the day straight after his Gotcha! Day. Mumma sends a big kiss for the top of your gorgeous fuzzy head and Bubba sends extra special girl bubba loves. They’re the best. Puppy love from Bella & all of us! xox

I don’t need any favours to be happy for you. I promise to contribute to any spay and neuter schemes that I come in to contact with. I also promise to help my sister with her two feral kittens. Be well and happy. Hugs 🙂 xxxxx

  7. Happy Gotcha Day Rumpy!
I have sent two ‘thank you’ cards to an animal protection team here that supports the TNR program, and a local vet who has been giving discount on spay and neuter surgeries because it’s needed so much!
Oh, and a post about it of course!

  8. Happy Happy Gotcha Day Rumpy! I hope you have a VERY special day today with Jen and DeDe and of course June Buggie…..How will WE celebrate your special day? We’re going to make a special contribution to our favorite rescue group that does TNR here in our area. And while it’s not directly related to spaying and neutering, we’re going to buy lots of doggy and kitty food to put in the collection container at our local grocery store to go to our shelter. Enjoy your day Rumpy – we all love you!!

    Kitty Hugs, Sammy

  9. Happy Gotcha Day Rumpy. I support the Cats Protection charity in the UK, my local branch in particular. I foster abandoned, stray and unwanted kittens, as well as trapping them when necessary. I also donate on a monthly basis via my salary and this helps towards the free neutering that Cats Protection offer. As you know, it is amazing the number of people who do not have their cats neutered/spayed and then wonder why they have had kittens. Oh dear. Hope you have a great day.

  10. Happy Gotcha Day, Rumpy, I’m glad that Jen saved you, and I know you have a wonderful home now! My 2 legged siblings give donations–one month they requested extra food–to our local animal shelter. It’s a way for the young ones to see that they can help, too. x

  11. Hey, Rumpy!!! Happy Gotcha Day to you! Isn’t it wonderful to be adopted into a loving home?!
My pawrents own a shop with a BIG parking lot, and once a month, they let the PETA “snip van” park there FREE so that folks can bring their kitties and dogs to be spayed/neutered at a reduced cost. I think that’s pretty kind of them.
    Have a great day, Rumpy!!

  12. Happy Gotcha Day! Both my grrlz are “fixed” as has every dog that has been in my home for years and years and years. I’m keeping an eye on a place that has Greyhounds to make sure they obey our laws.

  13. Happy Gotcha Day buddy!! Thank goodness you and Jen stopped you from darting into the street six years ago and you are now her a loving home! Have a terrific day!!

  14. Happy Gotcha Day!!! Bella Rose and I participate in walks and charity events that teach the public about spaying and neutering, and pups that are adopted out the fee paid to the organization includes spaying and neutering.

  15. HAPPY HAPPY GOTCHA DAY RUMPY! My Mom is HONORED to share her birthday with YOUR “Gotcha Day!” Mom always features the widget of “nooters club” on Cat Chat. It is a widget that leads people to a directory of low cost spay and neuter clinics in the U.S. It is on the right hand side of Mom’s side bar there and has been there nearly as long as Cat Chat has been around! Barks and licks and love, Dakota

  16. Happy Gotcha day to our favorite Doggy Friend! They say sometimes things are meant to be – you and Jen were meant to be together, just like me and the Swabie. We are so lucky to be loved forever!

Gypsy & Amber send you big kisses

  17. Happy Gotcha Day, dear Rumpy!!!! My dad braught the tomcat of a neighbor to the vet on tuesday, now his days as the “CATanova” are over, but I think it was a good decision. For him and his mom, an old lady who gots a lot of complaints for the “cat music” in the past. :o)

  18. Oh, so GORGEOUS! Happy Gotcha, Rumpy 🙂

I only drop in randomly, & today was a perfect day to come by, to be in your party. You are BEAUTIFUL. I can never get enough pics of your gorgeous face, quirky looks. If you had puppies, they’d be the most awesome little Rumpies …

  19. SURPRISE! Rumpy, you didn’t really think anyone would forget? (DeDe you did such a good job.) Happy Gotcha Day and party on!
Would like to give paw wave to Bayside Bed and Biscuit (and Bayside Animal Clinic) for working with rescue dogs to make sure they are healthy, and have “family manners” so they can easily find new homes. We want them all to be Gotcha!
Woo woo and tail wags to ya’ Rumpy!

  20. Happy happy, Rumpy. I volunteer at Indy Feral on their spay/neuter days in loving memory of my kitty Sweet Spot.

  21. Happy Gotcha Day, Rumpy! We are writing letters to our local vets who provide low-cost spay/neuter services. We have also blogged a cute little Wordless Wednesday post. Mom is also going to write a more informative posts later this month.

    Maya & Pierson

  22. Woo Hoo. Or rather Ha Roo. from Pippa and me.

We don’t do a lot to promote spay and neuter – but Pippa doesn’t go runabout on his own which is more than can be said for a lot of dogs and cats in our village in Spain. But hand/paw on heart, none of our dogs or people have ever reproduced. So that’s our (non) contribution.

  23. Surprise, it’s your Gotcha Day! We hope you have a good one!

To help shelters all across the country we do humane education presentations to school-aged kids to explain to them what shelters are and how to help the animals in them and how to prevent animals from having to go there in the first place.

  24. I don’t want a prize thanks Rumpy cos I lives too far away and post would be expensive but I popped by to read your blog and wish you, once again, a happy Happy Birthday.

  25. A very big Happy Gotcha Day to you, Rumpy – we knew you wouldn’t be disappointed. Mom promised that she will stop by our local shelter and bring some food and treats so that those pups stranded there will at least have some good meals. She is also going to leave some green papers to help neuter/spay some of those pups. We will all cross our paws for some good humans to take them home forever.

Woos – Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning

  26. Happy Gotcha Day, Rumpy!! We sure do love you and your inspirational message. We don’t have one thing in mind, but have made it our daily mission to spread the word about responsibility when we can – whether it be via our blog, our conversations, or donations, or whatever – we always take the opportunity when we can to help educate the mainstream about the importance of S/N.

  27. Happy Gotcha Day, Rumpy, and Happy Gotcha Rumpy Day, Jen! 🙂
I’ll start by using my social media network to campaign for the TNR solution & help animal welfare advocates in my country (Philippines) get the word out.

  28. Happy Gotcha Day, Rumpy! You’re a special guy to care about animals less fortunate than yourself. We act local here and have worked very hard to keep all the cats that are feral or abandoned in our neighborhood spayed and neutered at our own expense and, of course, we feed them and provide them shelter and affection (the non-feral ones)…and they get treats, too, and have toys and beds. Most of them remain outdoor cats but we love them and they know it! Have a great day, Rumpy!

  29. Best Wishes for Your Gotcha Day Rumpy. You noe I am adopted too right? Finding a forever home is the best thing ever!!! You do important work at your blog, and who knew you were such a pawsome singer!!! Cheers Rumpster

  30. SURPRISE RUMPY!! HAPPY HAPPY GOTCHA DAY! You know Dad and Mom volunteer with a local private humane society that provides SN low cost. But Mom just saw Cody and Miss Caren’s comment and we will put the “nooter club” badge on my bloggy today. AND Dad and Mom will pay for two s/n at our humane society next week in your name!

  31. Happy Gotcha Day, Rumpdog! Wow! What a special day for a special furpal! Enjoy your day and we hope you get lots of treats and hugs. We join you in being pro-neutering/spaying…all FiveSibes are! We will do our part to continue promoting neutering & spaying (or desexing as you say) and maybe one day we will no longer have this epidemic of homeless pets who are not as lucky as you or the Five or others. Have a wooooo-nderful day! We are posting a Birthday Card to you over on our FiveSibes Facebook page, so be sure to pop by! I’m sure there will be many more Happy Gotcha Day wishes there for you, too! Husky hugs!

  32. I’ m glad you are in a home of love Rumpy and your mamma is so right about spay and neutering being so important! That’s a real problem here. All three of the dogs we’ve had were rescues and I wouldn’t have it any other way! Why keep making new lives when there are so many existing ones who need a place to call home?!! What’s funny is people think by adopting a puppy to get a fresh start they will have more control over what kind of dog they have but oftentimes they teach them a lot of bad behaviors or after they grow up just put them in the backyard or leave them home alone and all kinds of destructive and bad behaviors arise from lack of training, daily walks and socialization. Sorry Rumpy for the rant…just feel so passionately about this! Enjoy your special day – I know to you – every moment is special! HUGZ!

  33. Happy “gotcha” Day Rumpy we are all lucky that your Mom picked you instead of letting you go to a shelter. We world all miss out on so much fun, love, and that beautiful face. Happy “Gotcha” Day, have a great day with cookies all day 🙂

  34. Happy Gotcha Day sweet, handsome Rumpy!! We hope you have a terrific, fun day. We always talk to people about their dogs and kitties and if they have not had them neutered/spayed we tell them about the low cost clinics and encourage them to take their pets and have the surgery. We also have a sticker in our car window encouraging spaying/neutering. Hugs and nose kisses

  35. Happy Gotcha Day Rumpy 🙂 Neutering/spaying doesn’t seem to be a major problem round here hence my neighbours cat (now spayed after much persusasion) had so many problems – there were no un-neutered male cats to mate her! They even talked about taking her to a cat rescue shelter and asking for an un-neutered male to be loaned for mating her!! I did explain things didn’t work quite like that and they neutered all their cats not to mention they might’ve decided to try to keep the female cat there and spay her too whether they liked it or not! Actually Rumpy…I think it’s the humans who have the breeding problem. Neutering would be very useful to stop the ridiculous number of benefit breeders and would probably go a long way to helping sort out our economy!! People seem to be far more responsible about their pets in that way than they are about their sons and daughters!!

  36. Oh Rumpy a very belated but happy gottcha! You pat Jen on the back for saving you!

Hey the neutering thing…. been doing it for years and well I just wish the UK vets would lower their prices…. but…. can’t believe they ever will.

Many, many happy gottchas 🙂 Cris x

  37. Happy Gotcha Day Rumpy. Quite a crowd you’ve got here. 😉 Yes, do be careful with those candles!!!!

Love the new blog look too.

Mr. Cheddar sends a big headbonk.

AND what are we doing for spay/neuter in our area? Cinnamon has a vet appointment and we is donating to our vet to helps her helps those who can’t afford to has their pets spayed/neuters. Wes lives in a rural area and there is no program. Dr Carol does lots of good work in that area and it is tough for her to turn those away who can not afford operations for their pets.

  40. Happy Gotcha Day, Rumpy! You have inspired me to learn more about organizations in my area that promote spay/neutering and feature them on my blog as well as my Facebook timeline and page. Thank you, my friend!

  41. Happy Gotcha Day !Sorry I wasn’t on long yesterday as I was busy cooking for my Daughter’s surprise Party! What a success, she was surprised !Hope you also had a very happy day !Hugs

  42. I’m sorry I’m a bit late to wish you a happy gotcha day. We do try to educate locally about spaying and neutering, which has made a difference to the lives of a few animals. We are also convincing people that it makes sense to feed cats – they are generally expected to get all their food from hunting.

  43. Happy gotcha day!! I am so pleased that Jen found you and together you are doing so so uch to raise awareness for animals in your area! As a special birthday treat we would like to donate a box of treats to a rescue of your choice (however as I have limited pocket money can I ask you to chose one in the UK) and i will send the goodies to them. You can even chose which treats we send if you would like? http://www.harringtonspetfood.com/content/UK/dog-product

  44. Rumpy-want-a-cookie, happy gotcha day again.

I’ve always encouraged people with dogs to have their dog spayed or neutered-particularly in forums.

We’d like to join your contest. If we win, we’d love to have it sent to one of our US Bloggy friends. We hope that’s okay.

    Huggies and Cheese,
