WHAT? A party? For me? I don’t believe it!
You are all the bestest friends ever!
Little did I know when Jen stopped to keep me from darting into a busy street six years ago, what adventures we had in store for us. Has it been a bed of roses? Not at all. But we agreed to stick together and work things out. That’s what makes me a lucky dog.
There are many dogs that don’t have it so good. Millions die each year for no reason other than they have no home. Still many more are alive, but they’re not living. They are in crates or cages or runs, hoping someone will come along and love them. Or they simply give up.
That’s what could have happened to me, but it didn’t.
And it’s from that sense of gratitude that I talk about being a responsible pet owner. I think every dog should have it so good.
The only way that’s going to happen is when we curtail reproduction. And one way we do that by de-sexing animals (Aussie term for spay/neuter).
So…. I believe it’s at this point that you are going to tell me about what YOU are going to do to promote spay/neuter where you live? I can’t WAIT to hear what you have planned!

Hi Rumpy. Sorry I tricked you the other day. I didn’t want to spoil the surprise. Your Gotcha Day is awesome 🙂 I know Gotcha Days and birthdays are special but they only come around once a year. We support our local CPS and Doggie Rescue every day, and that’s what I would urge everyone to do if they can because they are the ones who can direct the resources into spay/neuter programs best. I support the National De-sexing Network, which promotes subsidised desexing and provides information on how to access discount desexing. I also am known to ‘preach’ to pet owners on how they should get their dogs and cats desexed.

We’re planning to write a letter to our local city council, if they can make a little budget for spay/ neuter of dogs and cats for free or at least with reduction explaining how it’s so important.
There is some subsidy for pet animals but not for feral…weird, isn’t it? It’s very unfair!
I hope that this spay/neuter way for animals will be much more common in all over the world! and for that, we need to start at least small things that we can do little by little!

I have sent two ‘thank you’ cards to an animal protection team here that supports the TNR program, and a local vet who has been giving discount on spay and neuter surgeries because it’s needed so much!
Oh, and a post about it of course!

We’re going to make a special contribution to our favorite rescue group that does TNR here in our area. And while it’s not directly related to spaying and neutering, we’re going to buy lots of doggy and kitty food to put in the collection container at our local grocery store to go to our shelter. Happy Gotcha Day Rumpy. I support the Cats Protection charity in the UK, my local branch in particular. I foster abandoned, stray and unwanted kittens, as well as trapping them when necessary. I also donate on a monthly basis via my salary and this helps towards the free neutering that Cats Protection offer. As you know, it is amazing the number of people who do not have their cats neutered/spayed and then wonder why they have had kittens. Oh dear. Hope you have a great day.

My pawrents own a shop with a BIG parking lot, and once a month, they let the PETA “snip van” park there FREE so that folks can bring their kitties and dogs to be spayed/neutered at a reduced cost. I think that’s pretty kind of them.

To help shelters all across the country we do humane education presentations to school-aged kids to explain to them what shelters are and how to help the animals in them and how to prevent animals from having to go there in the first place.

A very big Happy Gotcha Day to you, Rumpy – we knew you wouldn’t be disappointed. Mom promised that she will stop by our local shelter and bring some food and treats so that those pups stranded there will at least have some good meals. She is also going to leave some green papers to help neuter/spay some of those pups. We will all cross our paws for some good humans to take them home forever.

We act local here and have worked very hard to keep all the cats that are feral or abandoned in our neighborhood spayed and neutered at our own expense and, of course, we feed them and provide them shelter and affection (the non-feral ones)…and they get treats, too, and have toys and beds. Most of them remain outdoor cats but we love them and they know it! Have a great day, Rumpy!

I’ m glad you are in a home of love Rumpy and your mamma is so right about spay and neutering being so important! That’s a real problem here. All three of the dogs we’ve had were rescues and I wouldn’t have it any other way! Why keep making new lives when there are so many existing ones who need a place to call home?!! What’s funny is people think by adopting a puppy to get a fresh start they will have more control over what kind of dog they have but oftentimes they teach them a lot of bad behaviors or after they grow up just put them in the backyard or leave them home alone and all kinds of destructive and bad behaviors arise from lack of training, daily walks and socialization. Sorry Rumpy for the rant…just feel so passionately about this! Enjoy your special day – I know to you – every moment is special! HUGZ!

Happy Gotcha Day Rumpy 🙂 Neutering/spaying doesn’t seem to be a major problem round here hence my neighbours cat (now spayed after much persusasion) had so many problems – there were no un-neutered male cats to mate her! They even talked about taking her to a cat rescue shelter and asking for an un-neutered male to be loaned for mating her!! I did explain things didn’t work quite like that and they neutered all their cats not to mention they might’ve decided to try to keep the female cat there and spay her too whether they liked it or not! Actually Rumpy…I think it’s the humans who have the breeding problem. Neutering would be very useful to stop the ridiculous number of benefit breeders and would probably go a long way to helping sort out our economy!! People seem to be far more responsible about their pets in that way than they are about their sons and daughters!!

AND what are we doing for spay/neuter in our area? Cinnamon has a vet appointment and we is donating to our vet to helps her helps those who can’t afford to has their pets spayed/neuters. Wes lives in a rural area and there is no program. Dr Carol does lots of good work in that area and it is tough for her to turn those away who can not afford operations for their pets.

I’m sorry I’m a bit late to wish you a happy gotcha day. We do try to educate locally about spaying and neutering, which has made a difference to the lives of a few animals. We are also convincing people that it makes sense to feed cats – they are generally expected to get all their food from hunting.
