Welcome to another edition of Hisses and Purrs. Each week Hissy Fit Jones and June Buggie share the good, and not-so-good, news about animals and their plight around the world.
Hissy Fit Jones is especially agitated this week, so let’s let him do his thing!

Hisses to David Savage of Warrington in the UK, who pled guilty to being the owner of a dog dangerously out of control in a public place when his dog grabbed up and decapitated another, smaller dog. According to witnesses, Savage kicked the smaller dog’s body beneath a car afterward. Savage was convicted of the same charge in 2006.
Hisses to NFL player Darnell Docket! As mentioned last week, this clown bought a tiger cub to keep as a pet. Now PETA is causing a firestorm (and rightfully so), because it appears Docket transported the cub from Florida to Arizona without a permit, which is against the law.
Hisses to the Fonterra company of New Zealand, for selling whey protein contaminated with botulism. The whey is believed to have been used in baby formula in China and animal feed in Australia, among other places.
Hisses to Jean-Claude Savoie, owner of Reptile Ocean pet store in Campbellton, New Brunswick. Two children, ages 5 and 7, were killed in his apartment over the store after an African rock python escaped its enclosure and crushed them. The pet store sells exotic animals, such as crocodiles, tarantulas, tortoises and snakes.
.
Oh Dog! I am so with you there, Lil’ Hiss! Let’s go get some good news now from June Buggie!

Purrs to Norman Reedus, star of the TV show The Walking Dead, for joining with Cruelty Free International to work toward a ban on cosmetics tested on animals in the U.S. and around the world.
Purrs to Princess Stephanie of Monaco, who agreed to allow two elephants, ages 42 and 43 years, to live out their days on the family ranch in Monaco. Baby and Nepal, who had resided at the Tete d’Or zoo in Lyon, France, were to be killed after it was suspected they were exposed to tuberculosis.
Purrs to Google billionaire Sergey Brin, who funded the synthetic meat project. Scientists grew meat in a lab, and yesterday it was cooked into a burger. When asked why he funded the project, Brin said for animal welfare reasons. His hope is that in the future we will do away with factory farming and grow our food this way.

Purrs to Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen for donating $1 million to the Jane Goodall Institute to study and protect gorillas in Africa. The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation says wildlife conservation projects in Africa are one of their top priorities.
.
Whoa! I am very impressed with this week’s purrs! People using their money, their fame, their status- to help us animals!
Who do YOU think deserves hisses or purrs this week?
Purrs to the lady who spent a fortune to have a neglected and cruelty treated dog re-homed in Australia with her..it took months of being transported and then in Quarantine but the beautiful dog is now living with her family in safety and with love here in Australia..hisses indeed to that pet shop owner..saw this on our news tonight more proof that animals should not be sold in shops..and exotic ones just beggers belief….
Non-domesticated animals should NOT be pets. Plain and simple.
Exactly!! hence the term Wild.
Some of the hisses are horrific! Thank goodness for the purrs 🙂
yep, when humans get involved, not-so-good things happen….. and we invariably take the blame for their follies.
jimineys some peeps suck real bad!!!! Purrs to your entire household for bringing these stories to light & to our humum who makes every dog feel welcome at her work, their human companions seem surprised by this which is a sad indictment on how they must normally be treated. xoxoxox clingycat
The purrs this week are awesome but sadly the hisses are shameful and terrifying.
Big hisses to Justin Bieber, who gave his pet dwarf hamster away to a screaming fan (this story is pretty old – December last year – but whee are disgusted after hearing about it)
http://www.guineapigtoday.com/2012/12/16/did-justin-bieber-set-a-bad-example-for-small-pet-owners/
Purrs to our local rescue center who have rehomed all but one of the guinea pigs they had in ^_^
Nutty, Nacho, Buddy & Basil
xxxx
That is a terrible story about the two children. What an awful way to die! I hope the store owner is prosecuted for murder.
Wow!!! This week’s purrrs are all fabulous!!! More than fabulous, they are! I totally agree with the idea to grow meat in a lab, because the idea is very helpful bothe for animals and human health!
Oh no…I’m soooooo angry to David Savage….how sad to hear that the small dog was died from that terrible accident…..very very sorry for the small dog…..We can’t forgive Savage……
When animals do bad things it’s usually a human that’s behind it. Thank Bast for good people doing good.
Indeed!
We would like to add some HISSES to the CRAZY man here in Northeastern Ohio who tortured 3 innocent kittens and left them along the road to suffer. and PURRS to the 3 boys who Saw him “dump” the kitties and got them HELP.
Sometimes we are very embarrassed to live in this state.
Here’s hoping that 3 who do good far outweigh the one that did bad.
I will hiss with you from the bottom of my heart for this i**ot who needs a tiger for his ego and for this pet store owner. Yay for Mr. brin – I would like to try his “meat”.
I am grateful to people like Brin! They are the ones that pave the way toward a better future!
Thanks for the update!
woo woo woo! Thanks Dennis!
Thank Cod more purrs that hisses…but the hisses still are disturbing. I just don’t understand why celebs, ie the NFL dude, can’t use their money and celeb status for good instead of making life miserable for animals and even people….bummer.
Thankfully, there are some out there that are. I applaud the billionaires who are using some of their fortunes to find ways to make animal lives better.
Good list of Hisses and Purrs today! Sometimes I just don’t understand why people do such horrible things. Don’t want to either. But I’m glad there are people out there who help animals live better lives. Good job Rumpy, Hissy Fit, and June Buggie!
Wow, sounds like savage was a fitting name for your first guy.
But I’m less excited about the artificial meat than you are. I suspect the method of producing this meat won’t be as good for animals as many think.
And artificial meats exist already made from bean curd that are quite good.
I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.
Oh, those hisses make us so mad! Humans really can be monsters, can’t they? We’re glad you balance them out with some purrs, or else we’d be apoplectic!
Thank cod for the purrs!!!
There are LOTS of good in the world too!
