Some Christmas Thoughts

Some things about the holidays I love.

The light displays warm the heart on a cold winter night. The music promoting peace is particularly welcomed  this year.

Some things about the holidays i don’t care for at all.

The crowds. The attitudes. The theft. The unrealistic expectations.

I’ve never really cared for the holiday celebrations. I always felt I was being judged by how I looked, how I dressed, or what gifts I gave. Took me a long time to realize that most people are wondering the same thing, and even if I was being judged it really didn’t matter because what others think about me is none of my concern.

This year my family has chosen to do away with the gift thing and play Dirty Santa. Much less stressful for sure.

Santa will be visiting the kitties. I know they don’t really care if he visits or not, but it matters to me, so visit he will.

I bought myself a gift also: a shelf unit to store my excess kitchen items. No more storage in plastic totes and taking up precious counter space.

I hope you enjoy your Christmas, whatever it brings.

    1. It’s played different ways but I’ve played it by each participant putting a gift beneath the tree. We draw numbers to see what order we go in. Then when it’s your turn you choose a gift, either one beneath the tree or one someone else has already chosen. If you take someone else’s gift that person can take one from the tree or from anyone except the person who just took your gift. That’s what’s dirty! 😉

  1. Merry Christmas from all our fur people to your fur people! Ours are getting gifts too. I’m sure they don’t care about the holiday, but I bet they will love the gifts anyway 🙂 Merry merry to you and yours!

  2. Great idea Jenn! And I gave up going to my family for the reasons you stated…too many expectations & so much greed & judgment…..My family dropped being Jewish & perhaps expected me to do the same? I tried to balance both traditions but I surrender.
I have family in my dear friends here in town. And we all take care of each other.
I’m glad the cats will get ‘a visit’, lol….

  3. Good for you. Buying yourself a present is the best. You get exactly what you want and don’t need to fight the return lines. Have a Merry Christmas.

  4. We’re with you, re: music about peace. Somehow, those songs have taken on so much more meaning in our current climate. Wishing you all a merry Christmas. Hugs!

  5. Merry Christmas! I share your feelings. This year I let my sister unwrap my gift as I had bought it myself and had a carer wrap it. I did the card. She got a little excited for a second until I reminded her it was mine. We do Christmas differently………..it’s more about sharing calories of things you should not make to eat alone………and friendly banter. And my mum and sisters fur-kids! Since I’m in between cats. Cheers,H
